Some info for those going for selection for the National WWR Team this weekend.

Firstly the WWR Sprint race on Saturday. This race is not a ranking race and no entry fee will be charged. It is a race specifically for selection purposes, but if people not going for selection wish to race, that is ok. The first run will be at 12.00 noon. The second run will be at 12.45 PM. The start will be in the eddy on river right at the downstream edge of the green metal fence about 150 metres below the bridge in Ballymahon. This eddy is about 50 metres above the first rapid on the course. The finish will be by the concrete pipe on river right, about 30 metres below the "meat factory" rapid. This is just downstream of a wooden fence on river right. Walkbacks are possible on the right hand river bank. Timed runs by paddlers last weekend saw times of the order of 2.20-2.30 per run. The course will be marked out next Saturday morning by a slalom pole at the start and a finish sign at the end.

The WWR Classic race on the Sunday will be run as part of the ranking race. The start will be just upstream or the bridge at Newcastle Wood car park (the usual location). While the finish of the ranking race for some classes will be just upstream of the bridge in Ballymahon (for those less experienced paddlers), the finish of the race for selection purposes (and experienced paddlers) will be in the same location as the Sprint race finish (just below the "meat factory" rapid). We would encourage paddlers to paddle on down to the next bridge to get out after the Classic race rather than get out just below the finish line at the "meat factory". This is to prevent unnecessary traffic in the gated estate past which the race runs. Start time is as per the race notice Tony Dillon circulated over the weekend (12.00 noon).
