ICU Wild Water Racing Committee Meeting Minutes

Present: Martin McCarthy, Caoimhe Ni Chuinn, Bruno Halter, Liam McCarthy

1. Handover of Responsibilities

Equipment

Liam McCarthy accepted responsibility for equipment. The handover of equipment will take place at or before the race on 13th January.

 

Race Notification & Co-ordination

Caoimhe Ni Chuinn offered to help race organisers to co-ordinate race events, issue race notices and publicise events (to include reminding paddlers of upcoming events by text message). Wild Water News could be used to get phone numbers. The aim is to increase race participation.

 

Web site and WW News 

Liam McCarthy will become a co-administrator of the Wild Water News group Martin is to arrange this. It was decided to replace the existing ICU Wild Water Racing Website domain name with one that is less complex. Bruno Halter offered to investigate this and report back to the ctte. Irishwildwaterracing.com/ie was suggested.

 

 

2. Castleconnell Race

It was decided that every effort should be made to proceed with the race in Castleconnell. If the committee are not certain by 22nd December that the race can proceed there, it will go ahead on the Inny. Martin and Willie to liase in order to try to secure Castleconnell as the race venue. The race notification is to be circulated on the 22nd of December, once the decision regarding venue has been made. Caoimhe to liase with race organiser to ensure everything is in place once race venue has been confirmed.

 

3. Junior Training

It was agreed that the first priority is to establish a junior squad, from which a Junior Team may emerge. If the members of this junior squad show sufficient levels of enthusiasm and potential, an event or a trip abroad for a training camp will be considered. The junior squad shall participate in organised squad training sessions

 

4. Selection Policy (seniors)

The following was decided:

a)      Those paddlers who want to be considered for selection to the Irish WW Racing Team should send a written request to that effect (by letter or by email) to the Secretary (L McCarthy) on or before 15th January

b)      Squad training sessions will be organised.

c)      The committee will choose a selection event, which will have to involve a sprint and a classic race. Details of the selection event and selection criteria will be announced at least one month before the selection event is to take place. Participation in this selection event is necessary for selection to the Irish WW racing team.
